Clarisonic | Two-Month Update!
6:48 PMThis blog post is an update to my previous Clarisonic experience post, which was written after one week of use. If you haven't read that, you can find it here.
My first week of use had been great. I'd seen impressive results in so little time, such as clearer, smoother skin, fewer blackheads, and tighter pores. I'd also mentioned in the post that I had not experienced the "purging" phase everyone talked about. If you're wondering what that is, it's a phase in which your skin pushes all the gunk to the surface of the skin and causes severe temporary breakouts. I have thankfully not experienced that, but my skin has never been sensitive and I would scrub once a day prior to using the Clarisonic.
So, skip to two months later, and that brings us to now. I have used the Clarisonic Mia 3 every single day, with the normal brush head in the morning and the deep pore brush head at night. I still thankfully haven't experienced the purging phase, but my sudden clear skin did not last more than a couple of weeks. I have gone back to having my usual hormonal breakouts, cystic acne, and milia. My blackheads, however, which usually adorn my nose and chin, have been taking longer to appear after each extraction. My pores are definitely looking smaller, and my skin has been feeling a lot tighter.
Here are a couple of things I have noticed over time:
- The Clarisonic dries my skin out. I don't know if it's because my skin had never been cleansed as well before, but I definitely notice more dry patches, and I have been producing less oil on the T-zone. The corners of my lips also tend to get dry faster.
- I have never had such clean skin. I used to take my makeup off first and then cleanse, but there would be no makeup residue on my towel after cleansing. Now, I take my makeup off and cleanse with the Clarisonic, and my brush turns beige with all the foundation stuck in my pores that wouldn't typically wash away with a normal hand/towel wash.
- My skin sucks in products like there's no tomorrow. It must be because my pores are so clean, but everything I put on my skin afterwards just goes right in.
- The normal brush head doesn't do much, and neither did the sensitive brush head that came with the Clarisonic. The deep pore head, however, is the best thing I've ever used. Not only does it exfoliate, it cleanses your pores, stimulates the glands, and tightens your pores. Don't overuse it, though. I have noticed that using it twice a day makes my skin patchy, so I only use it at night.
- The three speeds are completely useless. While I can easily go to the third speed without damaging the surface of my skin, the first speed (which is also the only speed on the original Clarisonic) is more than enough. It's a little bit gentler and perfect for everyday use.
- The real 20-20-10-10 (twenty seconds forehead, twenty-seconds nose and chin, and ten seconds for each cheek) is not for everyone. If I use the Clarisonic twenty seconds twice a day on my forehead, I'll break out. Use it where you need it most first.
- Use the Clarisonic with a gel or a cream cleanser, as long as it's thick and stays wet and slippery. I have noticed that using it with a liquid cleanser that doesn't foam or dries too quickly will scratch my skin. Therefore, the Boscia Purifying Cleansing Gel I would use wasn't the best. I have now opted for the Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cleanser, which allows the bristles to slide across the skin more comfortably.
If you have been thinking of purchasing a Clarisonic, make sure that you do not have sensitive skin. Otherwise, you probably won't enjoy it. Don't waste your money with the Mia 2 or 3, because like I said, the first speed is actually the best. Find the best brush head for your skin, as well as the best skincare routine, because it should make your skin much better, but it could also make it worse. Lastly, use a good moisturizer if you don't want your skin to get patchy and dry.
I hope this helped, and comment down below if you have any questions!
