Before - Anna Todd

So I said that I would write a review just for Before by Anna Todd (make sure you read my review on the After books first), so here it is.
Just a little reminder before we start. There are currently five books: After, After We Collided, After We Fell, After Ever Happy, and Before. The four first ones follow a timeline, from the day Tessa and Hardin meet to the day they end up together. The fifth book, Before, follows Hardin's disturbed past by giving a voice to all the troubled characters we meet along the first four books.
Before is separated into three parts. The first part follows different characters in their point of view; characters that we met in the first four books of the series. It helps understand Hardin's past and how he turned into the bad boy he is when he meets Tessa. The second part is in Hardin's point of view while he is dating Tessa. Most scenes were seen in the first books, but reading them from Hardin's perspective changes everything. The third part is the future, which I of course won't reveal.
Hardin has done some bad things in the past. Spoiler alert: he's filmed and photographed himself abusing girls, he's made a deal over stealing Tessa's virginity, and a lot more. But even though the first few books alternate between his point of view and Tessa's, you find out a lot more in this last book of Hessa's story – yes, that is their couple name.
Once again, the story is good, even though there aren't many plot twists. We know most of what there is to know already, so it's nothing new. Of course, the writing is still abominable, but that's no news either. It is however very interesting to finally hear about the other characters, the ones that we hear about but never really know much of. They don't get a voice in the first books, and now you can see how they are related to Hardin and why they are actually so important. Reading this book might even make you feel like reading the four others all over again just to understand better.
I loved this series. Fine, the writing is atrocious and the vocabulary could have been more advanced, but the story is just so good that you can't stop until you're finished. It's good from the first book to the last, and you won't be disappointed giving it a try.
