It Ends with Us - Colleen Hoover
2:28 PMColleen, you did it again.
It Ends with Us is Colleen Hoover's most recent novel, published this past August. If you check its ratings on Goodreads, it has a rating of 4.6, rated by over 30,000 people. And trust me, this rating is more than accurate.
The story follows twenty-three-year-old Lily after the death of her abusive father. The book officially starts the night of the funeral, but the story truly starts six months later when Lily opens her own flower shop in Boston, MA. It follows her when she meets Ryle, and it follows her when she runs into Atlas, a long lost friend. And Lily, she's tough. She goes through a lot for a twenty-three-year-old in terms of love, loss, and business.
Lily's father is dead, and she's always promised herself that she wouldn't become her mother. The wife of an abusive man. But one night, she's surprised by Ryle's behavior, and she realizes that she's been caught in the same scheme. Unable to untangle herself from the curse's grips. But Ryle... Ryle is good, no? That's the question she asks herself. That's the question Atlas asks her. And when her answer is yes, she's definitely not trying to convince him. Rather, she tries to convince herself.Over the course of two years, Lily discovers more about Ryle. Things that are good, and things that are really bad. Atlas will always be there for her even when he isn't really, for the ups and downs and for the good and the bad. So who does she choose when things become too tough?
Read the book if you want to find out!
This story is such a roller coaster of emotions. Hoover managed to reflect Lily's pain so well, it actually hurts to read the tough parts. It's very intense and probably not recommended for people, so watch out for that trigger warning. But if you're looking for one of the best books of your life, this is it.
Again, Colleen Hoover's writing is impeccable. It's very simple, easy to read, which makes the sad parts even more intense. It's like Lily is trying to simplify the pain, but the pain will always be there. There wasn't a part of the book that I didn't enjoy, but there were parts where I had to put the book down, take a deep breath, and tell myself that it's just a book.
A must-read in my opinion, just like anything Colleen Hoover has written.
