Nine Minutes - Beth Flynn

I started this book over a month ago, but from the first and second chapter, I thought it was going to be too dark for me. Because of that, I ended up putting it aside and I read something else. But something just kept bothering me at the back of my head, and it was telling me to keep reading it. Not only that, but the reviews on Goodreads were too good to let my own judgment ruin it, so I finally gave it another try and read it in a day. It was just that good.

The first chapter takes place in the present day, and don't read ahead if you don't want a spoiler, but it's Grizz's execution day. Ginny is present, along with her husband, as she watches the love of her life die before her eyes. The next chapter starts in 1975 where it all started.
I laughed. I cried. I gasped at the incredible plot twist at the end of the book. I enjoyed this story so much that I feel like reading it all over again just to feel Grizz and Ginny's love. While I should probably feel bad because it's a kidnapping story, it didn't feel like one at all. There was just so much passion and trust between the two characters that you forget Ginny isn't there willingly. And when she finally has to leave because Grizz is being arrested, she doesn't want to. And trust me, it's not just some sick case of Stockholm Syndrome!
You never find out how old Grizz really is, and from his built stature and tattooed body, you expect him to be very dangerous (which he is, don't get me wrong), but with Ginny, he has the softest heart. He falls in love with her fast and easily, and she returns the feelings within less than a month of living with him. I don't blame her, though. She's never really been loved by her parents, and Grizz is the first person to show her affection, and a lot of it. He spoils her rotten.

So I give this book a well deserved 5 on 5 and I can't wait for the second one that is supposed to come out this month. I might even read this one again because I still can't believe how good it actually was. Don't let the kidnapping story fool you, the story is way more than just that!
