Top 5 Sophie Kinsella Novels

If you don't know who Sophie Kinsella is, you've got to head to your nearest bookstore and pick up one of the following books. Also known as Madeleine Wickham, or Queen of British chick lit, Kinsella writes brilliant, light, and hilarious novels, typically with a twinge of erotica, that you won't be able to put down. The main characters of her books are usually late-twenties women with boyfriend problems and undecided careers, going through incomparable adventures. Advocate for women empowerment, Kinsella makes her female characters succeed in the business world with humor by showing their weaknesses and failures, and how they can learn from them.

Without further ado, here are my five favorite books by Sophie Kinsella, from least favorite to absolute favorite. You may also click on the titles to access each of their Goodreads page to read a full description.

Despite being number five on the list, Twenties Girl is still pretty hilarious – trust me, it wouldn't have made the list otherwise. Lara is a great, funny character, and she and Sadie (the ghost) make one of the best duos. The only reason I was turned off by this book is because of the fact that Lara sees a ghost, because I'm not entirely into supernatural things. Then again, it's a still a typical Kinsella novel with the wit and the humor, so if you have the chance to pick it up at the bookstore, go for it!

In my opinion, losing your engagement is a sign that you shouldn't be engaged in the first place. Losing your phone, however, doesn't mean anything. Finding an abandoned phone, though, might mean trouble. It's exactly what Poppy goes through, and it's definitely trouble when she falls for the owner of the phone who, by the way, is not her fiancé. This book takes a while to really start, but it's so funny that it's definitely worth it. Definitely a book to read I would recommend if you're doubting some decisions and need a light read to change your mind.

This is the book that made me fall in love with Sophie Kinsella, or also known as the first book by her I've read. Considering that the main character, Lexi, loses her memory after a car accident, you would think that it's a sad book, but the adventures that she goes through are way too funny to cry. Boyfriend problems, career problems, and parental problems, this book will keep you on your toes.

Drive me to the middle of nowhere, put me in someone else's home as a maid, and I will become Samantha. This book is so predictable, but at the same time, being able to have this kind of escape from real life would be a dream. Samantha is a complete mess at this new job as a housekeeper, and I won't even get started on her manners and her curtsy. I'm pretty sure I read this book in one day, and every minute spent on it was worth it.

This is probably the most read novel by this author after the Shopaholic series – which are not mentioned in here for obvious reasons – and if you give it a shot, you will understand why. Emma is so clueless, funny, and girly – it's probably the best chick lit I've ever read. Her secrets are an accurate representation of the female population, and I would gladly have her life, especially after she meets Jack Harper. Once again, this novel empowers women in the sense that in the end, Emma finds her way to success in her field of expertise without the help of men. If there's one book you should read, it's this one.
