Leo - Mia Sheridan

I've read all of Mia Sheridan's novels except for Stinger, which I should probably get to really soon, and I can say that she's an amazing author. I have no idea what went wrong with this book, though. In my opinion, it just wasn't good at all.

Evie and Leo grew up in foster homes and met at the ages of 10 and 11 respectively. At age 15, Leo was suddenly adopted, and had to move from Cincinnati to San Diego. He promised Evie that he would come back for her and that he would contact her as soon as he got there, but that was the last she ever heard of him.

8 years later, Evie still lives in Cincinnati and works in a hotel, as well as for a catering company. For a week, she notices someone stalking her out of her apartment and around the city. One day, she decides to confront the man with the sleek BMW, and he presents himself as Jake, a friend of Leo's from San Diego. He tells her Leo died in a car accident last year, and that he asked Jake to take care of her once he was gone.

So all of this happens in the first three chapters, and from then on, it's only sex. Every chapter consists Jake pampering Evie and making love to her in every room and space available. There really isn't much going on other than that.

Spoiler alert: in the second to last chapter, so the last chapter before the epilogue, major plot twist: Jake is Leo. However, due to a car accident, he had to get his face rebuilt when he was 18. This explains why Evie hadn't recognized him the first time they interacted. But seriously, what kind of excuse is that? On top of that, for half a page, Evie doesn't forgive him. She says he should've told her, then they have sex again, because really, that's all they do, and then she forgives him and they live a happily ever after. The End.

I feel like this book could've had so much potential, but it felt rushed, slightly badly written compared to Mia Sheridan's other novels, and it had to be the worst ending I've ever read. I won't even waste my time reading the sequel, Leo's Chance, which is the same book but from Leo/Jake's point of view. If anyone reads it, please comment below and tell me what you've thought of it!
